Move over Gerber Baby

In my humble opinion this little guy could be the next Gerber Baby.  I am a little biased and I have been known to have a severe case of Doting Aunt.  That aside, I really liked this picture.  This little guy was feeding himself raspberries. (see image below)  I played with the original image in the filter menu, to find just the right combination of texture and monochromatic color scheme, I chose the charcoal filter.  Then, I used the clone stamp and the eraser.

Hiding

Long ago, I fell in love with stripes, chairs and classical patterns.  I used Photoshop,  Illustrator and some stock images to create this picture. 

Part 5: Enough Yellow

This is the last blog post of the sunflower series.  As much as I love yellow, 4 blog posts featuring yellow in a row is a lot. This last post is dedicated to playing with the above photo in Photoshop.  The original photo had a very nice shallow depth of field (blurry background) which translated nicely into black and white.  I desaturated the photo above.  Then I applied a sketching filter to a copy of the desaturated layer, which I titled sketching.  I changed the mode of the sketching layer to multiply.  Then I opened the levels menu and bumped up the middle slider to somewhere around .40.  Then I added some brown tones to the photo by colorizing it using the Hues/Saturation menu.  If any of this process makes sense to you, try it. 

Part 4: Panorama

This image is composed from 9 images, blended together using the Photomerge option in Photoshop. I'm sure I could do this by hand, but I appreciate the ability of the program to line the images up for me. 

Part 3: Capturing a Bee

I have a valid fear of dear ticks.  So the evening I shot these pictures I wore jeans with the temperature and humidity way over 90.  As I was sweating away in the evening sun rambling though the rows I loved the sounds, smells and colors all around me.  One of the sounds was bees buzzing from flower to flower.  So I began a quest to catch a bee in mid flight. I finally caught one and did my best to bring him into focus and make the background have a shallow depth of field in .005 seconds.

Part 2: Stalking Your Sister

I supposed taking pictures of unsuspecting persons, could classify as stalking.  But I don't think that applies to your sister.  The whole time I was in the sunflower field, the song "Pictures of People Taking Pictures" by Jack Johnson kept running through my head.  My sister absolutely loves photography, so capturing her in the middle of her own sunflower photo shoot was a must.  By the way, that is my gray ruffled shirt she's wearing.

Sun Flowers Part 1

A few Saturdays ago, I spent a hot humid evening sweating in a sunflower field with an awesome camera borrowed from a friend.  Overcome by the cameras awesomeness and some amazing lenses, I shot 293 pictures.  After sorting through the pictures last night, I decided to do a series of 5 postings showing different parts of the shoot.  This was my first time shooting in RAW format. Those files are huge!
